Richland is ranked among the Top 10 high technology communities in the nation (Milken Institutes). With Battelle Labs, Fluor, and Bechtel National leading the way as the city’s largest private employers, Richland boasts more doctorate degrees per capita then anywhere else in the nation as well as having one of the highest median household income averages in the state. With Washington State’s economic and employment growth ranking nationally as one of the highest over the past several years, the Richland area has played a significant role. In fact, 2007 lists it as having the highest county growth in the state at almost 5% (Wash. State Employment Sec. Department). This growth has been partly fueled by the massive public dollars directed towards the world’s largest nuclear vitrification project located at the Hanford Nuclear Facility. Money Magazine consistently lists the City of Richland as a contender for the “Best Places to Live” due to the superior quality of life. Located at the convergence of three major rivers providing unparalleled community amenities and outdoor activities, Richland is prized for its quality school system, extremely low crime rate, and low traffic congestion. |
